Bison offers unprecedented new technology. The fuel economy and emissions of its Mercedes-Benz/MTU engine have been optimized to meet the strictest requirements. At the same time, it consumes very low quantities of fuel. Instead of a conventional hydrostatic transmission, Bison’s engine is extended by the CVT transmission. Just hit the throttle and the continuous transmission selects the ideal gear ratio. As a result, high speeds do not increase fuel consumption at the same ratio as in hydrostatic systems. Fitted with the Active Crane boom control system, the grapple becomes an extension of the operator’s hand. It goes where you want it to go, easily and effortlessly. Bison carries 16 tons with unprecedented ease, from forests to storage sites.
USE THE WHOLE SPEED RANGE, WITHOUT STOPPING
For demanding grounds and challenging conditions – use the higher tractive force of the CVT technology. Now, you can use the entire speed range of your machine, without stopping. PONSSE Bison’s new transmission is based on the CVT technology. CVT includes the continuous changing of gear ratios, and thus the conventional switching between the slow and fast speed is no longer necessary. In a machine fitted with CVT, the conventional hydrostatic transmission has been replaced with a separate CVT transmission system. This enables a higher fuel economy and tractive force. The advantages materialize, in particular, when driving on steep slopes, in soft ground and in deep snow.
ENGINE AND HYDRAULICS
PONSSE Bison is fast and economical. It has a strong torque in the most demanding places, but it behaves extraordinarily at low rpm too, thanks to CVT. Engine rpm remains low and fuel economy high, also when loading.

It is the first seat designed specifically for forestry machinery. That is why the special needs of forestry machine operators have been addressed in its design. The seat and, in particular, its base, are solid, the seat has various suspension adjustments and the entire package withstands heavy operations for years without any problem.
PONSSE ACTIVE CRANE
PONSSE Active Crane offers a new way of controlling the loader and increasing efficiency. It is a system that the operator uses to control the movement of the harvesting implement instead of individual functions, allowing the operator to efficiently concentrate on the loader’s works. The active crane is easily controlled using two levers, one of them controlling the grapple height from the ground, and the other controlling the direction of movement. What is essential is that the operator does not need to control all functions simultaneously. Once the appropriate location of the harvesting implement has been given to the machine, it will perform the lift and use the boom and extension automatically. The operator can easily switch between Active Crane and conventional loader control, with a push of a button. This provides the active crane with easy maintenance and reliability.
The active frame eliminates any sideways movement the operator may feel. This presents the most significant factor directly affecting the operator when working with a forestry machine. Furthermore, it efficiently suspends any swaying, while keeping the operator’s seat horizontal.
